Bayern Munich set to sign Germany Under-18 starlet Mitchell Weiser - report
Bayern Munich will soon sign Koln starlet Mitchell Weiser, Kicker reports. The 18-year-old will either move this summer for a fee, or in July of 2013 on a free transfer.
Weiser first rose to prominence last summer as he starred for Germany at the Under-17 European Championship, in which he featured as a right-back. Weeks later, he played as a right-winger at the U17 World Cup, replacing the injured Marvin Ducksch. There, he scored three goals and gave three assists as Germany set a record for goals scored in the tournament, but finished third.
This season, Weiser has been a key figure in Koln's U19 team, and he earned his Bundesliga debut on February 25 in the derby against Leverkusen. At 17 years and 310 days, he became the youngest-ever player to feature for Koln's senior side.
A versatile player, Weiser has described Dani Alves as his primary influence, and is capable of occupying a berth on either flank, in defence or midfield.
